Progressive(have been, has been) with the present
     participle of the action verb. 
PastI walked in the mall yesterday. I have done this action in the past. Use the past
(Simple)tense of your action verb. 
PastI was walking in the mall yesterday.I was in the process of doing this action in the
Progressivepast. It is often combined with another phrase
 The tornado sirens went off yesterdaythat tells of some other occurrence. Use the

PerfectThe past tense helping verb 'had' is always used
     in front of the past participle of your action verb.
PastI had been walking in the mall. I had been habitually performing this action

 for two months, I dropped twoas a result. Use the past perfect form of "be"

FutureI will have walked in the mall by then.This is an action that begins and will end in
