Power of the Pen

We love to write!

in class

The Power of the Pen is a program in which our Middle School students compete against other schools in writing competitions. It also signifies our love of putting our thoughts on paper, whether we are participating in various writing contests locally and regionally, penning letters to other students around the world, creating prayers to share, dreaming up stories for our Kindergarten buddies, enjoying weekly creative writing sessions every Wednesday after school, or joining with our Christ the King parishioners to write about the Good News, Liturgical celebrations and our Catholic faith. We love to write!

Poems of Good News

We will regularly publish poems written by our Christ the King students as well as those who participate in our Christ the King Parish Power of the Pen Poetry Group in which we are following the Liturigical Year to write Poems of Good News.

Green is our Gold by Chase Benham (Grade 7) and published in the Toledo Blade, 2/6/2012.

Green as an emerald

our future time shall be.

Nature's beauty shall prosper

from sea to shining sea.

From the Appalachian mountains

to the giant redwoods grown,

on the coast, waves will shimmer

and roll on rocky shoals.

Nature's inner beauty

is as pure as precious gold.

In America's future,

Nature's green will be our gold.

Purple Purple Pink Purple by Gretchen Siek (6B)

Purple purple

Pink

Purple

This is the pattern

The advent candles

Purple

For hope

Pink

For love

We remember the wait

For Jesus

The wreath is a circle

A never end path

Just as His love

Is for us.

We follow the path

Like wise men and shepherds

Hoping to see

Jesus one day.

The Colors of Christmas by Mary Catherine Scarlett (grade 7, home-schooled)

Green and Red, Red and Green,

What do the colors of Christmas mean?

Red represents our Savior's death

Symbolic of his final breath.

Green glorifies his endless love

So we could live with Him above.

Green and Red, Red and Green,

Our Savior's love is what they mean.
